Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups of water
  • 4 black tea bags (or your favorite tea)
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of fresh blueberries and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar.
  2. Add 1 cup of water to the saucepan and bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  3. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to help the blueberries break down and release their juices.
  4. After 10 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  5. Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the mixture into a bowl or jar, pressing down on the blueberries to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids.
  6. In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
  7. Once the water is boiling, remove it from the heat and add the 4 black tea bags. Let the tea steep for about 5-7 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea.
  8. After steeping, remove the tea bags and let the tea cool to room temperature.
  9. In a large pitcher, combine the cooled tea and the blueberry syrup. Stir well to mix the flavors together.
  10. Add 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice to the pitcher.
  11. Taste the mixture and adjust the sweetness if necessary.
  12. Cover the pitcher with a lid or plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator. Let it chill for at least 1-2 hours.
  13. If you’re in a hurry, you can also pour the tea into individual glasses filled with ice to chill it quickly.
  14. Fill tall glasses with ice cubes.
  15. Pour the chilled blueberry iced tea over the ice, filling each glass about three-quarters full.
  16. Garnish each glass with a few fresh blueberries and a sprig of mint.
  17. If you like, you can also add a slice of lemon to the rim of the glass.
  18. Take a moment to appreciate the vibrant color and aroma of your iced tea.
  19. As you take your first sip, notice the balance of sweetness from the blueberry syrup and the tartness from the lemon juice.
